Each insurance company has written time frames in which a hail damage claim needs to be reported.  It is common to have a timeframe limit of 6 months or one year, but many companies will allow the policy holder to have more time than a year.  Check with your insurance company to make sure what timeframe is used to submit new hail damage claims.

Not all claims are processed fairly. At A. Smith Roofing, we have supported many homeowners in achieving their fair replacement value for hail damaged property.  Our advocacy efforts correct mistakes and oversights that could cost you thousands and the ability to replace your roof.  So what is the process for appealing a claim valuation? 

• Have your insurance papers reviewed by an experienced roofing contractor to make sure the appropriate assessments and valuation for your hail damaged property has been done.
• If there is a question about the amount of hail damage, get a second opinion before the claim period has expired.  A. Smith provides an inspection report that you can send to your insurance company.
• Appeal the initial claim valuation by asking the insurance company to review the damaged property for the reasons you believe it has been under-valued.
• Most of the time, the insurance company will correct their initial assessment and revalue the claim.  But there are additional steps that can be taken if necessary.
• Please don’t be intimidated in dealing with the insurance company. We can be a very strong advocate for you and help insure that you get a fair settlement and the best roof for the money you receive.
